Crohns Disease/pain Meds Cut In Half
UpdatedI'm really hoping someone who has some knowledge on this sees this. My sister has Crohn's disease, unfortunately she's in the 3% who have a life threatening kind. Her specialist put her on Remicade, which has a lot of side effects like making ur cystic acne waaayyy worse. That is no problem for her because the side effects for medication she's been on in the past would be horrible like chandeliering her bones. Peices of her bones would break off and get caught between the skin and try to stick through the skin. She's been on pain medication ever since i can remember, i couldn't imagine her not ever needing it considering her bowels and intestines are all cut up on the inside which leads to infections like abscesses. Our doctor recently got in trouble for some stuff he was doing and was replaced with another doctor, who was 2 months late. They sent all patients, even my sister, to a pain clinic where they say "pain medication is a last resort". That should not apply to people who have an incurable disease that has almost killed her twice now from abscesses. She finally got in to see the new doctor and he cut her medication almost in half. She gets 90 Percocets a month.. Again.. For someone with an incurable disease that causes unimaginable pain, to 50 percocets a month. Her specialist feels like Remicade is the "and all be all answer for Crohn's disease".. All its doing is keeping the abscesses away, not the daily pain in her stomach from open wounds since she was 12. What can we do in this situation? I feel 100% helpless so i can't even imagine how she feels. Everyone who hasn't even spent a day in her shoes is telling her how much pain she's in and that it can't be that bad.. She's an adult so i can't jump into doctors appointments and speak my mind. What can we do?

Hello winMaczz. I. So sorry to hear this . It's a dirty rotten shame how chronic pain patients are suffering over this . I would have her search for a different Dr , one that's compassionate and caring. There's another thread on here where people are signing a petition to the dea over this not sure the name of the thread. I suffer chronic pain also, and because of uncontrollable dependency on the pain medication I had to switch to Suboxone to get relief and control my usage I doubt this would help her but I have noticed that recently since the new regulations on pain medication that alot of people are doing this . I'll keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers. Good luck
