Convert Hydrocodone Into Oxycontin

Updated January 17, 2017

I was taking 3 10 mg oxycontin a day along with 8 norcos 10/325. I have been given oxycontin 20 mg three times a day to replace the 10 mg oxy and the vicodins. Is this enough to assure no wd from going totally off the vicodin or do I need a higher dose of oxy to cover it. I am not sure of the conversion from the vicodin to the oxy. Remember I was originally on the 10 mg oxys three times a day along with the vic. Thanks.

Nancy,

Without benefit of your dx's:,history or rx usage it would be impossible to predict if this transition will suffice. If your prescriber has full knowledge of your entire treatment history id have confidence that his decision is medically sound and will starve off any Withdrawl symptoms. As a chronic pain patient I do best with an extended release (OxyContin ) and an immediate release ( hydrocodone ) for breakthrough pain as needed respectively.Should you begin to experience any Withdrawal symptoms please contact your prescriber immediately. For reference purposes only a wide variety of opiate/ Opiod conversion charts are available online just google that input.Im not a doc but work in the recovery field and am a life long cpp.so this is only my experience and by no means taken as medical advice. I wish a good day.Regards,
