They can be taken together, as long as your doctor has stated you should do so. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.
It doesn't actually turn it into Morphine, your body breaks it down into the same metabolites, which is very different and does not create the risk of an overdose. Just make sure you stay within your prescribed dosing parameters.
