Clindamycin 300 Mg 4 Times A Day For Abscessed Tooth And New Abscess Forms
(Newest replies first)
Updated
Been on clindamycin since Saturday evening and this is Thursday night for an abscessed tooth. It went down for a day and now has a new abscess on my gums. Does this mean the clindamycin is not working? ? Do I need a different antibiotic? Also noticed I have a boil that wasn't present until the clindamycin was in my system. Could clindamycin be the cause?

I am currently on it myself two capsules every six hours for 10 days abcess teeth i have paradontal disease an constantly deal with this i am currently in the long process of getting dentures i am a 25 year old woman. Going tomorrow for more extractions and was wondering if they would or could take these molars out that keep getting abcessed an are currently abcessed even tho im on clindmycin been on it since sunday?? I am still having pain even while taking the hydrocodone they put me on.
It may not have caused them, but it could be that it just wasn't the correct medication to help.
I'm very glad that the new one is working. Are you still seeing improvement?
My primary care doc took me off of clindamycin. He gave me Flagyl and things have improved drastically! My opinion, clindamycin was the cause of my issues. It wasn't stopping the infection at all.
Yes, I think that would be a good idea. If nothing else, your PCP could let you know if it is all dental related, or not.
Can you post back and update me? Thanks!
Called my dentist today. He said to continue the clindamycin but I am skeptical. I have 2 boils now! And the new abscess isn't on or near the same tooth! It's on the opposite side of my mouth. I also have diarrhea and just generally feel ill. Should I try to get in to see an md instead of trusting a dentist? I don't think the clindamycin is working and I'm concerned it's actually causing these new issues!
Sometimes an abscess doesn't go away with an antibiotic and the tooth needs to be treated to drain it, or extracted entirely. However, there is a chance that this one just isn't working for you and you may need to try a different one.
Have you consulted your dentist, yet?
The FDA lists this medication as an antibiotic, which may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
Is there anything else I can help with?
