Ciprofloxacin Back And Neck Sore
UpdatedI recently was put on ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily for 14 days for a possible prostate infection. Starting at the end of day 4 I started to get some neck stiffness/soreness. It is now day 5, and the soreness came back about 2 hours into the day. I've also gotten what I can only describe is some cramp-like pain in my back along my spine. The neck pain is pretty consistent, but the back pain is pretty few and far between. Any thoughts? Anything I should be worried about?

Do not take this antibiotic. Google cipro side effects, or getting "floxed". It happened to me last yr. Crazy stuff
Definitely get a different medicine
I agree! Coprocessor is known for these side effects and they can be Permanant! I'm surprised it's still available? It also causes eye problems, but muscular problems has been the major complaint.......
Ok so a few things I guess. What exactly are these muscular problems exactly? I usually get some neck/back soreness, it just feels more pronounced right now. But I'm currently very stressed and anxious after looking into cipro. If I switch to another antibiotic, will I have to restart the 14 days? Or can I just pick up where I left off on the cipro.
I would think pick up where left off, but you prob want to double ck with your doctor. But don't let them replace it with another flouriquolone. Most doctors deny these effects, though, so you'll have to insist on no flouriquolones
Ok well I think I'm going to contact my doctor tomorrow and get something different. Should I take the cipro one last time tonight, so that I dont miss a dose before I get something else?
Karen what are flouriquolones? I looked it up and there was no listing for it.
Christine what is coprocessor? looked it up and found no medical listing for it.
I may hv spelled it wrong. It may be flouriquolone? Its a strong class of antibiotics..ciprofloxacin, avelox, leavequin, and few others. I took cipro, which is ciprofloxacin
Fluoroquinolone ...Google together with cipro or levaquin..it should come up
thanks Karen looked it up. I have not ever heard of this reaction, I learn lots of new stuff on here all the time. seems like there are a lot of meds that cause peripheral neuropathy.
Also, my dad took cipro a few years ago and had no troubles with it. Am I less likely to have an adverse reaction if he was fine on it? I am nervous to switch to another medication if the switch makes it less likely for either of them to treat the infection properly. And then resistance would be more likely afterwards as well
Stephan if your having problems with the cipro it would probably be best to contact your doc and get a different prescription. the longer you take it the worse the reactions can become.
