Chlord Clidi 5 2 5mg Side Effects On My Mother

Just wanted to give others a "heads up" in case you see major changes in your loved ones. I just got back from a scare with my mother. About two weeks ago, I started receiving phone calls from relatives regarding my mother's health. They were concerned because she seemed frail, disoriented and just "not herself". I had noticed when we spoke on the phone, that she seemed to be slurring her words, being confused and forgetful and complained of being constantly tired. My brother had visited her on Labor Day and had not noticed anything unusual, so in just a few short weeks, she had really taken a turn for the worse. On Tuesday, I received a call, and my mother was in the Emergency Room, as her doctor feared that she had had a small stroke. I quickly drove 4 hours to be with her. When I arrived, they were releasing her saying that the tests showed that it was not a stroke (praise God!), and thought it had to do with some of her medications. Yesterday, I went to her pharmacist and asked if she had started taking a new medicine in the past 2-3 weeks, and she had. On Sept. 15th she had a prescription filled for chlord clidi. I'm sure the medication was fine and I'm sure it helps many people, but for her, it had adverse side effects. She's now not taking it and feels much better. I just felt like I needed to post our experience in case it might help someone else out.

Is she on any other medications? Why was this one prescribed?
