Not usually, this antibiotic only has a couple very specific uses in children, such as for plague or anthrax exposure, so it shouldn't be given, unless it has been prescribed by their doctor.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
