Can You Take Pain Medication With Sulfamethoxazole

I am itching all over from a reaction to Bactrim DS. Can I take a Percocet with it? How does it interact?

Percocet will not do anything to stop the itching. It is an opiate narcotic that is used to alleviate pain. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation and dry mouth.

As to the itching, you might be allergic to the Bactrim DS, so it would be best to see your doctor and have this checked out. Such allergies tend to worsen with repeated exposure, so you may need to switch to a different antibiotic.
