Can You Take Oxycodone 5 -325 Mg Every 4 Hours For Pain

I have 2 busted ear drums and stints put in because they are so swollen the drops fall out. The doctor has me on 1 oxycodone 5 - 325 every 6 hours but I get no relief. I've taken 2 of the 7.5 -500 mg and had relief but he gave me the wrong dose this time around and gave me 5. I was just wondering if I could take 2 every 4 to 6 hours when or if needed and be ok. My label says ok but still was asking. Thanks

Hello, Katt! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.

If the doctor has prescribed it that way, then there shouldn't be a problem, as long as you don't exceed the recommend daily limit of 3,000mgs of the Acetaminophen.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic that carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

Doubling up may worsen the side effects, so you should be aware of that and know to be careful of driving, while taking them.

Hi there! I don't go over but I do need the 2 tablets than 1. My tolerance of pain meds is so high to get any relief I have to double. I've only taken 2 today . I've also found out I have a tumor on my left tube which needs to be removed. Thats also painful. Just been using a small amount but nothing over 3000mg. Thanks for the reply and help!

Verwon, the maximum dosage of acetaminophen is not 3g but 4g. This equates to two 500mg tabs four times daily. The U.S. has now introduced a maximum 300mg dosage unit but has failed to, limit sales, which simply makes a mockery of the well-intended effort; it is the drug which is responsible for more deaths through overdosage than any other by a LONG way. Co-proxamol, a combination of dextropropoxyphene and acetaminophen, sold under names Distalgesic, Darvon, Proxyvon etc, was worst of all as both components are extremely hepatotoxic.

I recommend that acetaminophen, wherever possible, should be used only for reducing fever (anti-pyretic). Its value as an analgesic is practically zero, as it is so weak. Aspirin is slightly stronger but causes severe stomach problems. Simple codeine phosphate is forty times stronger, and yet is still considered a very mild analgesic. Only 10mg is permitted to be sold OTC, if in combination with one of those very weak analgesics. Best to get 15/30/60mg tablets on Rx. Even better is Dihydrocodeine tartrate, 1.5 x stronger and far less constipating! (Max OTC strength in combos 7.5mg).
