It is generally not recommended, because the combination can increase the QTc interval of your heart rhythm, which has the potential to be dangerous. They should only be taken together, if your doctor has clearly decided that the possible benefits to you outweigh the risk and is monitoring you regularly.

The FDA classified Methadone as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain.
