Can U Take Subutex After Using Methadone For Two Days
UpdatedI have been on about three quarters of generic subutex pills per day for over a year now. I ran out of subutex and took 40 mg of methadone the first day and 30 mg the next. I now have my subutex and I am wondering how long I should wait to take it... My husband had done this in the past where he only used the methadone a few days and switched right back to subutex the next day (at least 24 after). I just wanted to see if anyone else has had any experience with this. I do not want to be sick I've been through precipitated withdrawls before. TIA

Subutex only contains the narcotic Buprenorphine, it doesn't contain the Naloxone that is in Suboxone, which would cause the precipitated withdrawals.
This is a narcotic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Is there anything else I can help with?
That is completely incorrect as naloxone has nothing to do with the withdrawls, Buprinorphine cuases the withdrawl as it pulls invading opiates form their claimed territories causing the receptors to be empty. Naloxone is slow to the fight and will only block after the buprinorphine has attached. If you do not believe this try it with subutex which does not contain naloxone and you will have the same result. The answer to your question is that methadone, more than any other opiate has a much longer half life meaning it sticks around longer, therefore having a greater chance in causing withdrawal than oxy or H but on the same note a few days shouldn't be extreme but possible. 24 hours of abstinence should be sufficient. Longer periods of other opiates can take as long as 72 hours to prevent precipitating withdrawal
You are wrong sir. I tried it.
Do u have to be positive for drugs to be accepted into a suboxone clinic? Do they give you a drug panel prior to acceptance? I'm a former addict that is trying to get in a sub clinic so that I don't go back to using opioids. I think about it everyday so if I don't get in a clinic it's just a matter of time before I start running with that devil again, I'd rather be dead than to go thru that hell again.
You are all wrong. I have been on methadone for 4 years. I went cold turkey at 110mg. It doesn't matter the dose, it matters how fast our body can metabolize it out. I am on hour 179 at 6 days and still cannot take subtext. You will go into withdrawals. It is hell, any doctor will tell you it doesn't matter the dose. It sucks either way as methadone has a 3 day half life. If you have taken it for a long time you need to x that by 5 / 196 hours and you should be safe, but trust me you take that sub and it's too soon, get ready for a 6-8 hour ride to hell and back. I have had it happen 2 times and was hospitalized once for it, not fun.
Nobody has really answered your question. I have the same question. The naloxone is irrelevant unless you were crushing and misusing the drug. It’s the interaction between the methadone and buprenorphine that is the issue. You are not dependent on methadone any longer because you have not been using it. You just used it for two days. So you’re wondering if switching right back to Suboxone would be safe since theoretically you shouldn’t go into withdrawals from methadone since you haven’t been taking it regularly. I have been looking for the answer to the same question because I am contemplating doing the exact same thing. I have just switched from methadone to Subutex and my doctor is titrating my dose, but it’s not quite right yet and I have to go away for the weekend, but in a lot of pain. I have methadone left and I’m wondering if it is safe to take some for the weekend if necessary for the pain? I am completely detoxed from it so if I switch back to the Subutex, will I have to wait 72 hours or should I be OK within a day?
After such low doses of methadone for only two days and after being clean from it for so long, I can’t imagine there being a problem. As long as you’re not crushing the Suboxone and activating the naloxone in it, based on what I have read and surmised and gleaned from various sources, I am thinking that you and I should be OK within 24 hours. This is just an educated guess, however, As I suspect that official sources do not want people to really know the answer to that question.
