She can take, if it's been prescribed for her, but shouldn't be given to her otherwise.

The FDA classifies this medication as an opioid, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

If it wasn't prescribed for her, you should consult her dentist or doctor regarding what she can take. Ibuprofen or Tylenol may help. Holding ice against that area can also ease the soreness.
