Hi, my 2 years 6 months old child recently had severe diarrhea n had lost lots of weight due to it, so I ended up taking him to a pediatrician whom he gave him a lactovita tablet to be taken twice a day. So I'm concerned about what it's used for but so far it really helped since the diarrhea stopped.

This is actually a supplement, it is a bacteria that is naturally found in the body. Some conditions or some medications can cause the natural bacteria in the body to die off and cause diarrhea and other issues. By replacing it, the situation can often be resolved.
The only side effect listed by the FDA is occasional nausea.
