Can I Use Methadone To Get Off Of Percocets? (Top voted first)

I take about 150mgs of percocet 30mgs a day and I want to know if I take methadone will it help with the withdrawal & shakes of the stopping the percocet dose every day?

I have used methadone to come off of percocets before, but it was at a way lower dose.. I know suboxone's what is recommended but from what I'm told at my dose methadone is stronger if I use it right.

I take around 120 op oxy cottons ( thats the crush proof). Well ive been taking methadone 10s for about 5 days now. Will that help me ?? Im trying to get off them competely. How sick will i still Be?? Any advice ?

I had been taking 6-8 30 mg percs daily recreationally and decided I had to quit, and fast. You know, like ripping off a bandaid I assume, at least for me, it seems easier to get it over with fast.
I decided to taper off using methadone. I've tried the suboxone but I hated the feeling and I NEVER want to try cold turkey again. The first three days I took 30 mg of methadone, then three days of 20 mg. days 7-9 I did 15 mg then dropped to 10 mg. always in the morning and sometimes adding a few Tylenol for headaches. I felt a lot better when I drank lots of water and I could go about my daily chores. I am currently on my third day of taking nothing at all. I'm still waiting for some kind of real pain unlike the tiredness I have been feeling, but the longer times goes by, the more I realize this could be it. I just may have tamed the beast so to speak. I already feel so much clearer. Just want anyone who wonders to know that it IS possible to quit without going through withdrawal
This experience does not have to be kafkaesque.

I have taken 30mg of methadone will it be a waste and will it b safe to take 60mg of oxycodone?

You can use methadone to taper off Percocet .oxy,s ext .... I was taking 10 tablets of80mg oxy,s for years .... Unroll I was always sick and needing more .... 800 mg a day was tottaly ridiculous. I went on methadone and have been on it for a few years .... I was taking about 160 mg a day of methadone when I started to feel ok .... They start you at a low dose so as not to risk overdosing you ... I I stayed at 160 for a while till I felt ok to taper off ... I've been tapering off at 5mg a week and stoping the taper when I needed a extra week to feel ok with it... I se em to noticet eth taper the more sometimes then others . I'm down to 30 mg now and still doing well . I hope the info helps... Good luck

@ christina ive just recently detoxed at mercy hospital 54th and cedar avenue philadelphia pa ....they gave me liquid methadone every 6 hours...i felt very little withdraw symptoms an they guarenteed i would be normal in 6 days...i am now 6 days clean and i signed myself out of detox 2 days ago...on my 4th day i declined the methadone because i felt better and normal....i was doing 4-6 perk 30s a day...i suggest medical help liquid methedone was great but you need medical help to monitor you

I was on 40 mg of methadone for H addiction. I was on the methadone for only 1 1/2 months. I then had the clinic do a 21 day taper cause I couldn't afford it. I'm on day 5. I can't sleep worth s*** and I have restless leg syndrome. Those are the only symptoms. How long will this no sleeping go on for. I was not on that methadone very long.

Just so you know it is NOT safe to take benzos with methadone either because both slow your heart rate and it could be fatal to you. but methadone will help you get off any drugs you might be on now including benzos ..

Bill,forgot to tell you,in my experience,Methadone really really really helps to get off of any narcotic that I was on. It should really help with the shakes and sweats. Those suboxtons,WOW,the things I've heard about those. People have told me how sick to their stomachs,nausea constant,vomtting & if by chance you happen to take a percocet,vicodin etc, by mistake or because your pain is not under control, you WILL feel very very sick. Subs are used to block narcotics (I'm not a dr.&I may not be using the best vocab,but I'm trying) so first you just pretty much wasted the narcotic you took because subs will block them from getting in and you get severe withdrawl symptoms for awhile,not days and days,but prob the rest of the day. Hope you are doing well

The doctor will tell you what you can go up to. I wish I would have stayed at 50, but I went up to 90 mgs. I was taking about 140 mgs of oxycodone a day. I am at 29 mgs now and they are telling me now that im still gonna have to go through withdrawal. They lied to me to get mee on. They told me I could go down to 1 mg when I wheened off now they say 5 mgs. I wish I would have just susuffered my oxy withdrawal. A year and a half later at 240 dollars a month anf I still have to suffer. I kick myself in the but all the time. I beat oxy withdrawal before. It was 10 days of pure hell.

Does anyone know a doctor in the Lehigh valley in Pa that prescribes methadone I am on subutex and my Doctor threatened me because I was also taking benzos

In my honest opinion I don't think that Methadone will be of the best help, seeing as there is a possibly unsafe interaction between Methadone and the Oxycodone found in Percocet.

The interaction between these two drugs states the following:

"Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients."

"During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities."

Based on this, you may want to consider Suboxone, or even look into possible natural alternative solutions. Taking the natural route usually results in less undesirable side effects, so it may be worth your time to contact a naturopath in your area.

Bill,I currently take Percocet 10/325 X6 per day AND Methadone 10mg X4 per day.I have tried every single pain med out there over the last 16 + years.I had botched surgery in 1995,couldn't walk and was planted in a wheelchair and a bed for 1.5 yrs then starting moving using fore arm crutches then a walker,then reg crutches then back to walker BUT today,I walk by myself altho somedays I do use my cane for balance. I use to take morphine 4X per day and used the Percocet 10/325 PRN but daily. I've been on,off and then back on again for the percocet,methadone and at 2 diff times morphine too. The worst,and I mean worse withdrawl that I've been thru has to be the methadone.This is used to help people get OFF of heroine and it is strong,ya it works for pain,but it is a PAIN in itself to get off of. I hope this all works out for you

I need someone to talk to to help me get off tabs. I take 6 10mg a day and I can't do this anymore. I can't afford to be sick and in my bed for 2 weeks. I was told I can take methadones and still be able to get out of my bed. Can someone tell me if this will work, if I'm still able to get up and how many I'm gonna need to be okay.

I was taking 30 vicodin a day. I go to a methadone clinic. I'm at 150mg per day and it helps great. it doesn't make me feel high. I don't nod. I'm just normal all day. it just depends in ur body. I would try 60 to 75 mg to last ya.

Hi was reading your thead about detoxing with methadone.I was prescribed 30 mg oxycodone have severe back problems,now I have a whole new problem addicted to these damn things! Was wondering how much methadone I would need in place of the oxy so as not to withdraw??? I really want off them and wanted to try the meth route.. Sad to say it is ruining me..I rather suffer with my pain them depend on the pain meds anyone out there to guide me?

i am taking just 10 mg methadone for one day to prevent wd from oxycodone until i get my prescription filled tomorrow. is that ok fot one day? i am over 60 yrs old

It will be worse but that however was my case honestly if u could do subs do them i was takin methadone and i had to get a trachostomy cause i went into respiratory failure and i was perfectly health i hope u choose what's best for u and good luck i hope my story helped

Hi new here this is my delema I have been st using 20 5/325 perc a day + my script otc is 4 x3mg hydromorphone + 8 mg diladed sometimes I go without and sub methadone when I gobble up my script early my starting this was pancreatitis 3 months in hospital what would you guys think I should do as my. I think I will be cut off soon as I had to provide a urin sample (d test). If I go to a methadone clinic how much should I ask that I be started out at??
