Can I Take Valacyclovir And Amoxtr 875 125 Mg Simultaneously To Treat Mouth Sore

My doctor prescribed me valacyclovir.I took the full dose (2 pills in AM, 2 pills in PM of same day.) That was yesterday. My mouth sore is bigger! I have amoxtrk 875=125 as well as ayclovir 800mg (6 pills) Can I take either of these two prescriptions considering that I took valacyclovr yesterday? I really need this mouth sore to disappear asap!!!

Both Valacyclovir and Acyclovir are only effective against the herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores and, once you've already gotten a cold sore, that initial dose you took on the first day is enough. Taking more by adding the Acyclovir will not do anything, nor will it help it to heal up any faster.

Basically, once you have the cold sore, you have the cold sore and the only thing that's going to help is time.

If you get them regularly, your doctor can prescribe Valacyclovir or Acyclovir that you either take daily as a preventative or that you can take when you first feel the symptoms of getting one.

Side effects to these medications may include nausea, dizziness, headache and constipation.

The antibiotic will not do anything to help, it can only help with bacterial infections and will not do anything to help with a virus. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Hello Verwon,

Thank you for your tardy response even though its not quite what I want to hear. Today I went back to the medical office and was seen by another doctor who prescribed me acyclovir 800mg 3x per day orally as well as a topical cream of acyclovir. Of course I'm taking it all to speed up the healing process...do you think it will help?

I'm very sorry and I do hope that it clears up fast.

The best thing to do is keep the area clean, do not apply makeup or anything, since that can cause further irritation of the skin and prolong healing time.

As I said, adding more oral ones really won't do a lot, now. Though taking them can help suppress the virus to make sure you don't get more cold sores at the same time you're waiting for this one to heal up.

The topical creams, however, have not been found to do anything and most doctors consider them pointless to prescribe and spend money on.

What I'd suggest is that after this you see about taking a medication, such as the Acyclovir, regularly as a preventative. They work fantastically for many people. You take a 400mg tablet twice a day and it will prevent most cold sores in the future and, when you do get one, they tend to stay very tiny, so they're hardly noticeable and they clear up very fast.
