Can I Take Lisinopril After The Expiration Date

Updated

My lisinopril (90 day supply, just opened) will expire in 1.5 months. Can I finish it off or do I have to destroy it at the end of January?

Hello, Lynne! How are you?

This medication does not become dangerous once expired, but it may start to lose effectiveness. Thus, in reality, disposing of it, once it expires would be the best thing to do, however, you may want to ask your doctor and pharmacist if you can still finish it, since its loss of effectiveness will most likely be minimal by then.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension.

Is there anything else I can help with?
