Can I Take Hydrocodone Acetaminophen 10-325 And Zzzquil

I take one tablet of hydrocodone/apap 5-352 mg, but when I go to bed and wake up in 4 hours I can't get back to sleep. Can I take an advil pm to help me to get back to sleep?

Hi Norma,

According the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there is a high interaction potential reported between hydrocodone and the diphenhydramine in zzzquil / advil PM, stating that combining them may increase your risk of certain side effects such as: "loss of balance or dizziness, slurred speech, feeling confused, experiencing changes in mental awareness, or slow / shallow breathing."

They go on to note that if adjunctive treatment is required, your doctor may adjust the dosage and/or frequency of dosing in order to mitigate any possible risk of side effects.

Having read that, it sounds to me like if you were to space the doses apart then it should be fine.
