Hello, Brdie! How are you?
To my understanding, your doctor or pharmacist is allowed to discuss your medications with them and it is not a HIPAA violation, because they are a prescriber and there is a risk of interactions and etc. Thus, there is certain information that may be essential to your safe care that they need to know.
In reality, for your own safety, you should tell them everything that you are taking, before they prescribe anything, as directed by the FDA.
Additionally, when you see your doctor or dentist, you usually sign a paper acknowledging their privacy policies and when they will talk to another practitioner and what information will or will not be shared.
Was there something strange that you experienced that you found concerning?
