sherry this doesnt sound right. doxy isnt usually prescribed for dental infections and not for a month, unless youve got something else going on like a chronic sinus infection. call your dentist! in the mean time try warm salt water rinses, and an ice pack, tylenol or alleve, you can also use baby aspirin, let it dissolve on the tooth, or clove oil. anbesol helps but only for a little while. hope some of this works or you karen
It's a staph infection
sherry staph is a really bad infection. so it may get worse before it gets better, give it 2-3 days and if there is no improvement call your dentist you may need a stronger antibiotic, definitley keep your mouth rinsed, try the salt water and also the original listerine is a great mouth cleanser.
Hi Sherry,
Sorry to hear about your staph infection. I know those can be pretty serious if not treated properly, so I'd just encourage you to continue following your doctor's instructions when it comes to taking the doxycycline, understanding that it may be up to several days before it can build up in your system.
Now if you're ALSO experiencing a tooth infection, Karen is right in that you should take this up with your dentist in the event that it doesn't improve. Reason being is that some tooth infections are the result of decay and/or nerve damage, and in such cases the underlying cause of the pain can only be properly addressed by a dentist; who may recommend a root canal or extraction (depending on several factors).
What I'm not sure of though, is whether staph infections can be dental related? I usually only hear about them affecting other parts of the body, which makes me wonder if you were diagnosed with two different types of infections?
Doxy is prescribed for tooth and gum infections as well as gum disease. Very common
Re: karen (# 1)
There is a common myth that putting aspirin on aching spot will relief the dental pain immediately, but besides being untrue, this action may be harmful. It can cause greater damage to your mouth, because aspirin is basically an acid. NEVER PUT ASPIRIN ON A TOOTH.
