Can Doctor Increase My Adderall Dosage Between Prescriptions
UpdatedI have an appt. with a new doctor on Thursday (just moved) and am going to see if we can increase my dose from 30mg ir to 30mg xr and 10mg ir for the afternoon. My previous doctor, who is now out of state, wrote me two scripts with "do not fill until" dates so I would have time to find a doctor. I just filled the last one this past week. Obviously, I will tell my new doctor this and have my records faxed to his office. If he does increase my dose/change the type, will he write me a new script for the xr's to be filled? My body doesn't take well to these instant releases anymore-literally crash everyday by noon & feel lethargic the rest of the day with all focus out the window.
P.S. I've had my adderall prescriptions filled at Walgreen's religiously forever so I don't think their going to think anything weird is going on....even though nothing weird would be going on in the first place. I so hate the stigma attached to stimulants...makes me feel like I have to defend myself for even asking this. Ugh. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

I'm exhausted. And have to fix my spelling errors. Haha.
Yeah, I've talked to a lot of people that feel just the same as you. Some people can't seem to grasp the idea that others may require certain types of medication, but that doesn't mean they are abusing it, or are addicts. No one really likes having to be reliant on medications, regardless of what medical condition is being treated, thus those that poke their nose in need to learn to leave people alone. Let them and their doctor's handle it.
And yes, if your dosage, or the dosage formulation is changed, your doctor can write a new prescription for you, which you can have filled at your pharmacy. In worst case scenario, since you are already taking the regular release, you may be told to cut that one into thirds and finish it off, before you can pick up the new regular release 10mg prescription. (This is, of course, going with the fact that the doctor agrees with you regarding the dosage changes.)
The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness, and anorexia.
How did things go with the new doctor?
If your new doctor agrees, yes, you will be written completely new prescriptions and then just fill those. I switched to extended release, and it was such a beneficial change. It was too hard to keep the dosage at proper timing with the instant release. My Psycologist even said that there is a much lower chance of abuse or misuse when you set a timer and stick with a schedule on the extended release. Just curious how things went for you ?
And please try not to feel so stigmatized, I know, easier said than done ! I finally found a new smaller pharmacy that one of the bigger ones, I introduced myself, showed all of my medications to the pharmacist, I asked if they would be fearful or if there would be a problem filling them...... because I just got so, so, tired of being treated in a way that makes you "feel" as if your up to no good.
Re: Verwon (# 2)
The Adderall XR cannot be split because it is a capsule and no doctor would recommend that you open and take half the medication in the capsule. The IR are pills that do have a line which means they can be cut. I take the XR - 2 of 30MG daily. They do not wake me if I take one in the morning and around 8 am and take second around 11 or noon. No matter what time, by 3 pm I need a nap or I will fall asleep while driving or whatever I am doing and its very frustrating. I'm going to talk to my doctor about something else along with the adderall. I don't know if he can do it but I will try and see what his recommedations are.
Re: Ali (# 4)
Please keep us posted on what your doctor says, or what is willing to prescribe.
I am having the same problem with exhaustion. Thought it might be a generic vs. brand name problem, but I don't know. Thanks.
So, what was the outcome?
It is a year later? My guess is if you wanted a new script written, you had to exchange the old pills to be destroyed with the Dr for the new ones? That way he knows you do not have both scripts.
