I have a abcess tooth wanted to know if keflex 500 mg will take the infection out.

I have an impacted wisdom tooth and no dental coverage, but I have a bottle of cephalexin KLX 141. Will that take away an infection?

I am using cephalexin 500mg 2X a day for a pretty bad tooth abscess and it appears better after 24 hours. Pain is minimal and swelling going down.

Ive heard that Oil of Oregano can be used to treat a variety of ailments..even arthritic pains, infections..etc...Has anyone used this and what has it worked for them?? thanks.

I have had a bad tooth infection with pain for some time now..and have been treating it with OTC pain meds.. In the past I used Amoxicillin..it helped..but I heard that Cephalexin can be used for this also.

Hi Jackie,

From what I could gather, Keflex (cephalexin) can in fact be used to treat a tooth infection.

Apparently the usual adult dose for bacterial infections is listed as being anywhere from 250 to 500mgs every 6 hours; to be taken for up to 1-3 weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. However, these exact figures are generally something your doctor/dentist would determine upon a closer examination.
