Cephalexin is an antibiotic, so it can be used to treat some STIs, if your doctor approves. However, if you've not seen your doctor, then it would be best to do so, to get a proper diagnosis, so they can prescribe the correct antibiotic.
The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
What color is the discharge? Since you're also itching, you could have a yeast infection and, if so, an antibiotic may make it worse. You'd need to take an antifungal medication to treat it.
