I'm taking bactrim for a UTI. It turns out to be bacterial vaginosis. How long should I wait before starting the Flagyl?

Hi Lou Lou,

Sorry to hear about the bacterial vaginosis. When it comes to switching between different prescriptions I would always encourage you to contact your prescribing doctor and/or the pharmacist who filled it first, for specific and safe dosing instructions. However I do know that when I've taken antibiotics in the past and one didn't work as intended, I was instructed to switch over to a different antibiotic within a day's time. Again, this is just my experience. Your doctor may recommend a different wait time, but in my own opinion I'm not sure that it matters too much as long as they're not being taken back to back and overloading your system in a sense. One other thing, don't forget to take probiotics if you plan on taking antibiotics for any prolonged length of time. It'll help restore any good bacteria that the pharmaceuticals kill off in conjunction with the bad bacteria.
