Can 2 Mg Dilaudid Be Cut In Half

I am taking 2 mg dilaudid for sciatica and muscle spasms prescribed by my doctor. If i cut the 2 mg dilaudid in half and take the whole thing, will it work faster in my system? It is not time released.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

No that won't speed the analgesia effect derived from taking oral Dilaudid tablets. You may wish to speak to your provider about an alternate medication. Oral Dilaudid especially in small incremental doses has little analgesic effect when pain is nerve or muscular in nature. Parental or IV route of administration is far more effective when use of Dilaudid is considered appropriate. I can take 8 mg. by mouth and feel zero pain relief, but 2 mg. IV would knock me out for 6 hours. I hope you find relief. Regards, Kenie
