I have been looking for Butesin Picrate for years with no success. It suddenly disappeared from pharmacies. My tube says it is from Abbott Australasia Pty Ltd Sydney Australia.

I have sent an email to Abbott Australasia Pty Ltd. Their name is on the bottom of the tube that I have almost finished. I hope to get a reply soon. Perhaps if you email them also we might get some results.

I have used this cream and have been amazed by its efficiency and how quick recovery from serious burns has been. I was dismayed when it disappeared from the Australian pharmacy and have searched without luck. I have a small amount left from the largest tube and would have stock piled many had I known. If anyone knows of a source we would be grateful.

I've been trying to get this wonderful medicine here in the US but no luck. I know they sell this in Guatemala, where I come from. The problem is to get someone to get it for me I guess you can search Pharmacies in Guatemala and contact them to see if they can ship one to you. Little risky though. In Spanish is call Picrato de Bustesin

Looking for Butesin Picrate cannot find anywhere most stores say they have never heard of it. I really need it for my kitchen to have on hand. The last tube i have is down to enough for a very small burn.

My mother used this cream on me when I was burnt as a child. I am not 63 years old and have only found this twice as an adult. I live in the central valley of California and would like to know if it is available in this area. Or, can I purchase this on-line? Thank you in advance for your reply..........

I too have been searching for Butesin Picrate,
I cannot believe that something so wonderful successful, would be withdrawn. there is not another product I have ever come across that actually takes the pain out of minor burns???????

Butesin Picrate was sold as a burn ointment. Its greatest import is an a healing agent for cuts, abrasions and especially for infections. In 1957 I cut the end off my thumb with an axe. A person stuck it back on with BP. In two days, good as new.
Twenty years ago it was readily available in Canada, then it disappeared from the market. For five years I got it in the US, then it disappeared. I phoned Abbott in Australia. They told me that they had shut down the plant. They didn't seem to know what it was really for. I called a buddy in Melbourne and sent him shopping. He sent me four tubes.I am using it up, sparingly. I reported my discoveries to Glaxo Pharmaceuticles. The Director of Research said it was impossible. Should be able to make it. BP is a simple salt. Mix it at two percent with Vaseline.Let me know if you solve this. David Genn, Sooke, BC.

My mother also had this in her kitchen when I was growing up. I am now 46, and treat the one tube I have like one of the crown jewels. Like everyone who has posted here, I cannot believe it isn't available.

one of the chemicals in Butesin Picrate is carcinogenic.
thats why it is not sold anymore.

It is an amazing cream and irreplacable for burns. However, because it contains traces of mercury, it was withdrawn from the market in Australia - apparently it's still available online from the US

My experience was the same. Always in the medicine cabinet for effective relief of sunburn. I once administered it to a little girl who was badly sunburned on her back. Overnight she felt 100% better. Does anyone know why such an effective product was withdrawn by Abbot?

I actually have a tube of Butesin Picrate, my dad never threw anything away : )
It is Net Wt. one ounce, yellow cream.

Just found why (maybe) Butesin Picrate was discontinued.

This "State of California" PDF file is very informative and in some places a bit technical. oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/agweb/pdfs/cci/safety/picric.pdf

Still doesn't stop me from saving and using "Butesin Picrate". As for mercury content (if at all) mercury was used in polio vaccines as a preservative up until very recent times.

Chlorine is a carcinogen (along with ammonia) added to town drinking water globally.

Last night I burnt a finger on a red hot pan (burnt food) . My trusty tube of Butesin Picrate expired in 1989, I used it and no pain this morning. Our pharmacist (30 years ols) has never heared of BP. I will try a compounding chemist (with grey hair and a memory) to hopefully make some up for me.

Someone said that Abbott Laboratories in Chile still carries it. I really would love to know if its true and get a bunch of it, it would sell like hot cakes. I have tried everything else and nothing works as well and if caught early enough, you won't even get a blister. It was a staple in our house when I was growing up.

I too seem to be among the many looking for butesin picrate. I had a tube for years in a baggie because my dog chewed holes in it but I wouldn't let it go. Now that is gone and I've been looking for it ever since. The best thing for burns that I ever used. Wish I could find it again.

So are the chemicals in hair products and suntan lotions but because they are big corps. they get the pass plus it drives business to Pharma. I'd guess rather that it competed with a big outfit and got regulated out.
