Butalbital Tablets Or Capsules

Is there a difference between the white tablets- WESTWARD 785 and the green capsules that say Lannett 1552 on them?
Butalbital/aspirin/caffeine- 40/325/50 - I take 2 tablets and my headache goes away, the green capsules two of them and I throw up, so I'm scared to take them. Butalbital is discontinued anyhow, so now I have nothing to take for a headache. Any alternative that hasn't been discontinued out there as effective as Westward 785 white tablets are? Thanks.

Debbie (# 7)ok, read carefully and learn....THEY HAVE NOT BEEN DISCONTINUED!! there, have we learned anything??
Re: Debbie (# 4)
That's a shame that your"Dr" just didn't prescribe "Fiorinal"... The only difference between the two of them is fioricet has Tylenol, Fiorinal has aspirin..
My insurance stopped covering the Fioricet, 50/325/50mg white tablets. I can get them but at regular cost which isn’t an option. I just refilled at regular price and received the 50/300/40mg blue/green capsules. I didn’t know until AFTER leaving the pharmacy. I don’t know if they’ll work. This is upsetting to pay $90 and get something you’ve never tried nor had before!
Hi. I currently take Butalbital 50/300/40mg blue/green capsules. I also have 50/325/50mg white tablets that were just filled last week. I think the tablets work better for me, although neither are as effective as I'd like them to be.
I actually have a heart condition and had mini stroke while in the hospital originally for migraines/cluster headaches. Under a doctors care I got my fioricet every 4 hours and aspirin once a day. Told me to continue the regime at home. As long as aspirin is taken at every dose I ASSUME it's ok. Not a doctor and don't want to be responsible for any one being in danger. I had two separate conditions to address, hence my med schedule. If u don't want to ask ur doctor, ask for a consultation with a pharmacist. They know more about drug interactions. Just my two cents.
I called West Ward last week after local South Orange County, Ca pharmacies told me butalbital white tabs were discontinued. Sadly, West Ward confirmed that they are not manufacturing it anymore but may bring it back in the future due to demand. Do call them: 732-542-1191. Maybe if they get enough requests, they'll put it back on the market sooner!
Anyone having head pain....try Stadol....NASAL SPRAY. works 4 me nothing else works. Ive been through 2 brain surjuries..took lrg. Mass out...stil residual tumars in head. Took bones out also and have titainium plates in head. No pills worked just this Nasal spray. Generic name ...BUTORPHANOL TARTRATE NASAL SPRAY.
I will continue to take butalbital/acetaminophen/caffeine tablets and then the aspirin on the side, because after 40 + years of headaches, ALL that works for me is Butalbital/aspirin/caffeine - the mixture of it. Nothing else works. Since they discontinued the butalbital/aspirin/caffeine tablets, this is my solution to not having a horrible headache.
I thought it wasn't a good idea to mix aspirin w/aceteminophen. Thought it wasn't good for your liver. Check w/ur doctor or whoever answer on this forum.
I like those Westward tablets too, capsules don't work, but the new company is Activis and they stopped making them. I have nothing for migraine headaches either! Activis should stop making the capsules and give us the tablets. They still make Fioriset with butalibital in them, but they don't work good w/o aspirin. I heard there was a shortage of butalibital, not that they don't make it anymore. No warning either so we could have stocked up on the tablets. Lousy way to do business!
Thanks for the reply. I talked to my doctor, and I got butalbital, acetaminophen, and caffeine (these are NOT discontinued), and then I take two 325 mg aspirin - to get the aspirin that was in the old tablets.
I have a prescription for them too. Just filled them. It has not been discontinued
It has not been discontinued!! I just got my first prescription of it. It is w/ out the codeine...white tablets.
Hello, Debbie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you've been having.
There are two possible reasons that the capsules might have made you ill, though the tablets did not.
The first is due to how fast the medication hits your stomach, when you take the tablets, you have to digest them with stomach acid, so it usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes for them to start breaking down and some additional time to fully be digested, which means the medication doesn't all hit your stomach at once. However, with the capsules that is not the case, they pretty much dissolve and burst open as soon as they hit your stomach and all of the medication is just released virtually immediately, that's why instant release medications taken orally are made as capsules and not tablets.
And the second reason could be due to one of the inactive ingredients just not agreeing with you.
As to what else may be effective, it's hard to say since it can vary from person to person. Have you discussed the situation with your doctor?
