Hello, Pat! How are you?
This subject has been mentioned frequently in regards to several time released medications and, just as I have with everyone else, I can assure you that if you are seeing the tablet in your feces, you are just seeing the outer shell.
The medication, however, is still absorbed and used by your body.
There is a type of time released formulation that uses a substance that is almost similar to a little sponge in the pill, it and the medication are sealed inside the shell. Two tiny spots are left with just a thin outer covering over them, so that thin layer dissolves almost immediately, when the tablet meets your stomach acid.
Then, minuscule amounts of your stomach acid are slowly absorbed through one opening, which expands the spongy substance and that forces the medication out the second hole on the other side, so it can be absorbed and used by your body.
Eventually, the empty shell is expelled as waste.
Is there anything else I can help with?
I have actually retrieved the pills from the toilet. They look like yellow-ish rubbery little pods. I opened them up and found that they were full of dry white powder. When I call Par, I was told that the active ingredient had been released through the pof and only inactive residue remained. Ok, i can accept that explanation IF they can also explain how this process leaves DRY residue?
thanks.
