Brown Spots On Skin

Ever since I turned 50 (I am now 71), brown spots up to the size of a dime, are appearing more and more on my legs and back. The Doctor says it is from years in the Sun. My Mother has the same (not as bad) and never went in the sun. He says to lazer them off (at great expense) but they will eventually return. Is there another reason forgetting them? Is there another way to get rid of them?

These are also commonly referred to as age spots, or liver spots, and they do not require prolonged sun exposure, even just walking out your door regularly to go to a store, school, or etc., during daytime hours may cause them to occur. They are very common in adults over 50 years of age, they are generally harmless, though they can be bleached, or removed, if they really bother you. At 71, it is normal for them to appear on your skin, usually on areas that are commonly exposed to the sun, such as your arms, face, and legs.

My mother-in-law is 72 and she has several, but she doesn't worry about them. The only time they would be of concern would be if her doctor saw a reason to be of concern, otherwise, they are just an annoyance that we all have to deal with, as we age.

In most cases, rather than undergoing possibly painful and expensive medical procedures, they aren't worth worrying about, unless they are cancerous lesions.
