Brown And White Capsule With Ahr

I found some brown and white capsules in an old first aid kit we assembled. They were in a small envelope marked "for pain". Would REALLY like to know what this is. Only imprint is AHR on each side with no numbers. I've looked and can't find anything I think it's because they are old.

Eek! Yes, I'm guessing they are very old.

The AHR logo is still used by Robins Pharm, but in accordance with modern regulations, their products now have a number following the AHR to enable them to be identified.

Depending on how old that kit really was, it's hard to say what they might contain. Years ago, medications such as codeine were routinely included in such kits, because a prescription wasn't required for it at that time.

And one of the products they still make currently contains Acetaminophen and Codeine, under the brand name Phenaphen with Codeine.

Since it is possible for someone to be allergic to, or overdose on Codeine, I'd suggest making sure that they aren't made accessible to anyone. It's most likely best to just dispose of them, unless this kit is going to be locked up somewhere for display purposes, where no one can touch it. There are actually quite a few old ones on display at The Smithsonian like that, they just make sure they're secure, so no one can touch the old medications.
