Blue Fluoxetine Causes Heartburn (Page 11)

Recently my pharmacy began giving me a new version of fluoxetine, which I have taken for MANY years with no problems.... however the blue fluoxetine gives me horrible heart burn. I use to take them at night before bed, but couldn't sleep, so decided to start taking them in the morning and still get the heartburn. I don't take them with any other meds. I tried an empty stomach, and after eating, but the results are still the same. I also get a bad headache (I think from the heartburn.) Has anyone figured out how to avoid this problem?
I have had severe heartburn often with the white and green Fluoxetine capsules (20MG). I thought I would die each time, and thought I was allergic to bananas since I took it after breakfast. Now I take it during evening meal and most of the time all is well. The tablets a friend uses don't seem to cause the heartburn, but cost much more. I guess you get what you pay for.
I still remembered that night when my heart was burning like hell but as soon as I took the Fluoxetine capsules I got the quick relief, its really great I think the people feeling problems with heart burn must take Fluoxetine capsules.
I started some Green/White Fluoxetine capsules last week, with the imprint E 91. Tonight is the second time since then that I've had really bad heartburn and acid reflux, following two nights ago now... Usually when I get heartburn taking some Tums helps, but not these past few times. Thank you for creating this topic; now I'd bet that it's the medication.
Oh the fricking pain. Add another to the bad blue pills. Im in agaony right now. I wasnt sure witch one or even if any of my meds were causing this awful painful heartburn. Im releaved to now know without a doubt its the crappy blue prozac from WalMart. Ima go back to Walgreens.
I have been taking this med for nearly 20 years. Only recently (2 years) did I begin to experience the reflux pain. I am also on the two tone blue capsule and it seems to cause strong reflux symptoms. My suggestion to soften the pain is to take it in the morning with a good breakfast and then if possible do something active for an hour or so. Sitting is the worse thing to do until the drug works through the upper GI system.

I have been on 40 mgs of fluoxetine since jan 2013. They are green and orange. I've tried everything to stop the sparatic heart burn for monthes. Nothing seems to help wether I take it in the morning or night, with or without food. Most of the anti acids don't hardly touch the heart burn For me. The meds work great! I'm going to report this to FDA this is ridiculous!
me too, Kim. blue fluoxetine, 20mg. sporadic heartburn - once a month maybe - but terrible when it happens. will look into the tablets like someone suggested.
I am lying in bed suffering from major heartburn. I took a blue fluoxetine pill half an hour ago. I too have taken them for years without having this problem. It is a relief to know I am not alone. I will be calling my pharmacist and/or doctor tomorrow!!!!!
I amm taking those samme fluoroxetine capsules. I don't get heartburn every night but I get it sporadic and its horrible. Feels like my heart is on fire
I'm in the same boat. I never had an issue with this medication until recently when the color of my pills changed. I was told that it was still the same medication but the heartburn it has caused is horrible and I've had to stop taking the medication that I finally had gotten built up in my system.
Please call the manufactuer on your rx bottle for I am getting horrible heart burn from the blue Prozac they will ask you some questions then they send it to their safety person for review they also send you something in the mail. But this needs to be addressed so the FDA knows that this is happening. I did it just today.
I wanted to post a follow-up. After speaking with the pharmacist, he was able to substitute the capsules with tablets. I have not had a problem since. I don't know if your doctor has to approve or write the script a certain way in order to get them in lieu of the capsules, but I feel SO much better since the change! good luck to all
I think its more to do with the time u take yr tablets as I use the green and yellow ones and never an issue but took mine late 2nite when normally take in morning. Crazy burning feeling which I now know links to tablet but I never get this normally during the day. Eating bread had immediately helped reduce burn feeling so I am wondering if I did get tablet stuck in throat !!
Sorry you are having the heartburn problem....when I take the the green and white pills, I just have normal heartburn. (The flavored chews are WONDERFUL for getting rid of heartburn.) But when I took the blue ones, the heartburn started almost immediately. The flavored antacid chews can be found at Walgreens or CVS drug stores.
Getting major heartburn from my fluoxetine. The capsules are green/orange with "E 92" on them (if that's useful to know). I didn't know what I was experiencing was heartburn because I've never had it before. I was taking the pills in the morning but the heartburn would pretty much ruin my day so I switched to nights. It worked pretty well until tonight where it's 4:30am and I can't sleep bc of it. Do I need my doctor's permission to switch capsule types?
The ones I take are 40 mg and are Blue and white. they have the number/letter combo 82 PAR. I get it too from these pills. Any info on these? thx.
My doctor prescribed Fluoxetine for me 2 weeks ago for the first time. I took my very first pill (green & white capsule) in the morning while at work. A few minutes later my head was aching and my throat started burning and tightening up. I became disorientated, lethargic, and could not focus at work. This lasted for 90 minutes except for the lethargy. I was sluggish the whole day. I emailed my doctor and was ordered to cease with the medication. A friend of mine told me that I was experiencing heartburn. I have never experienced heartburn in my 52 years until now. Even though I have refrained from the medication, I have been experiencing this heartburn thing everyday for two weeks now and don't like it at all.
Add another person. Unfortunately I found this discussion just AFTER taking my blue capsules. Ouch I am hurting. My heartburn is very intermitant. I filled my rx at Costco. I am goimg back Monday to insist on a refund or different formulation. I will also will report this to my Dr. and the FDA. All, please do the same. Thank you all for posting and confirming my suspicion.
Green and orange fluoxetine RX632...
I don't think my pharmacy changed manufacturer cause the pills look the same as the ones I have taken for months.... But now I get heartburn all day long after I take it. I've tried eating before, empty stomach, taking acid reducers and even stopped for a few days to feel some relief.
I can't think why this is happening considering the Internet says this pill is used to treat heartburn lol
So confusing
