Blood Pressure Tabs

My Dr. took me off Atenolol 50 mgs. as I was having tingling and pain in my lower legs, and feet He said atenolol was tighting up my arteries and veins. Than put me on Amlodipine 2.5 mgs. am having problems w so manyith it. I'm 78 years old, been a logger all my life, so am not in very good shape, is there a B.P. med. that will lower my B.P. and not have so many bad results?

Hello, Jim! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having.

Yes, in the U.S. we have over 100 blood pressure/cardiac medications to choose from, so it's just a matter of finding on that works for you, without making you miserable.

I'm very sensitive to medications, so my ARNP did some extra research and 2 she found that are not known to cause as many side effects as the others are Atacand and Labetalol, I've been able to take them successfully for years.

The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination and hypotension.

You may want to ask your doctor about them, though I'm sure they'll also have their own recommendations and these medications may not be right for you.
