Blood Pressure Medicine Combinations

Im taking Diovan HCT 160/12.5 for my blood pressure but it is still little high.I have a second medicine I used to take Labetalol HCL 200mg.Is it ok to take them both?

Okay first, what numbers do you consider a little high?

You have to understand what when someone has high blood pressure, the basic goal is usually 135/85 or right around there, because in many cases it isn't practical to try to get them to 120/80 or lower.

You also need to be watching what you eat, such as keeping your sodium as low as possible and not overdoing your fluid intake, to help lower it. On top of that you also need to be getting regular exercise.

Other factors that come into play would be the time of day you are checking it, because it is normal for some fluctuations to occur throughout the day, due to various activities.

And had you drunk anything containing caffeine before checking it?


You really need to take all of these factors into consideration and discuss them with your doctor, before trying to add another medication on your own.

All medications carry risks and you could end up causing your blood pressure to go too low.

In response to your reply I have had high blood pressure since I [email protected] mom has high blood pressure so it is hereditary.My blood pressure has always ranged between 145-160/105-110.My bottom # has almost alwatys been in the low 100 range.I dont eat alot of foods that would contribute to making it higher&I dont add salt to anything.I do drink alot of tea&I like my pepsi too.I just would like to know if I should try taking my Labetalol 200mg with my Diovan 160/12.5 to see if it would help lower it.I stay pretty busy&sometimes really stressful long days.standing@work for 8-10hrs 5-6days/wk plus school 3nights /wk for 4hrs. plus I clean 3 houses for elderly people on the side.
