Do they use these drugs as a GI cocktail to treat acid refluk?

I have used a GI cocktail with belladona and donnatol for years. It had cost me about $28 a bottle, after ins. paid their portion. Now they said they can't get generic donnatol and the substitute is expensive so they are charging $130 a bottle at Walgreens. I told them to keep it. that's an outrage. If FDA has done this, it's time to contact our congressmen/women.

No, this medication combination is most commonly used to treat, or prevent IBS symptoms. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and abdominal pain.

Natlie, the FDA has nothing to do with setting the prices for any given medication, that is entirely up to the manufacturer. The FDA has actually tried to put measures in place, such as the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984 to try to help keep prices lower. Any given medication can vary from month to month, depending on what a pharmacy's distributor has found to be the cheapest price from various pharmaceutical companies. I recently went from paying around $40 for a prescription to having to pay over $150, and that is with insurance. This is insane.

But yes, it doesn't hurt to contact your representatives, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, so to speak.
