Benadryl And Methadone

I am taking 20mg of methadone daily and have been for many years. As I am getting older I'm trying to be more cautious as to what I take (otc). But I need to take some Benadryl for an itchy rash. Is this ok?

I too am on methadone and I'm taking over the counter sleeping pills which keeps causing a positive drug panel for benzos. The active ingredient is benadryl. It sucks.

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), the combination of benadryl and methadone may increase one's risk of serious side effects, such as dizziness, confusion, falling, sleepiness, drowsy, lightheadedness, fainting spells or a decreased ability to concentrate.

They go on to note that taking these two drugs together is usually not recommended, but if it's required in certain cases, then your doctor may adjust the dosage and/or frequency of dosing in order to minimize their interaction potential...
