Bad Reaction

I've been taking sulfamethoxazole/tmp ds tab for seven days and the nausea, chills, shakes,hot feeling,increased heart rate, stomach upset and pain, dizziness, diarrhea and vertigo have gotten worse each day. I was told by dr to stop taking it but prescribed another antibiotic to start. I am afraid to take the new med. I feel like I'm dying and can't go through this again. What are my options? I'm being treated for a bladder infection.

Some of those are rare side effects to the medication, which is a generic for Bactrim and your doctor was correct in telling you to stop taking it.

However, all medications carry the risk of side effects and if you have an infection, your risks are far greater if you don't have it properly treated, because it could cause serious health issues and permanent damage.

The usual antibiotic side effects that most people experience include nausea, drowsiness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. They are mostly mild and will go away, once you complete your course of treatment.

What is the new antibiotic that was prescribed?

Other ways you can help your body try to fight the infection would be to make sure that you are taking in plenty of water each day, drinking cranberry juice and eating yogurt with live, active cultures. But, before doing this, please make sure you doctor approves.
