I went to my pulmonary doctor today. I wasn't sure if I had allergies or an upper respiratory infection (not severe). I have asthma, and did not do as well with my breathing tests as I usually do. The Doctor heard a slight wheezing in my chest. He gave me 5 days of Bactrim DS. Is this a normal dose or should he have ordered pills for more days.

No, it can be used like that, if he thinks an infection might just be starting, or he's trying to prevent one.
Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
