Aurobindo Venlafaxine - Muscle And Joint Pain
UpdatedI have taken Venlafaxine XR Capsules - 2 150 mg per day (a high dosage). They were made by the same manufacturer for the first 3 or 4 years. Then, my insurance company switched to the manufacturer Aurobindo. Since then, I have had severe joint and muscle pain, primarily in my arms, but also somewhat in my hands. This pain is so severe that without aspirin, Tylenol, or Aleve, I can barely reach or lift things. Could this pain be due to the change in manufacturerr of my Venlafaxine XR?

Hello, Debra! How are you?
How long have you been taking the one from Aurobindo?
Usually, those types of symptoms would be side effects experienced, when first starting such a medication, or when your dosage is raised, as reported by the FDA. When I first started Prozac and each time we upped my dosage, I'd experience similar symptoms for a week, or two.
There can be fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient from one generic to another, which leads me to suspect that these ones may contain a little more. Conversely, they may also be a little lower than the prior ones and you could be experiencing some minor withdrawal effects.
However, your body should adjust in a few weeks. If not, then you should consult your doctor.
I too have experienced symptoms similar to yours, after changing insurance plans, and getting Aurobindo venlafaxine. Mine was a progressive onset...first had lower back pain; I'm 68, and figured I had overdone it playing with my grandchildren. When it didn't go away after a few weeks, I saw my PCP. He did x-rays, said it was degenerative disc disease and gave me pain killers. I took these for 5 days and then quit, because they had no effect at all. Then the left knee became painful; I had unloaded a truck a few days before and figured it was due to that...took high doses of naproxen, which lessened the pain, but it did not go away. A few weeks later, severe pain in one shoulder, the next week, the other knee. I have trouble walking, and I know if I see a doctor, he/she will either give me stronger painkillers and/or recommend physical therapy. Same old stuff...treat symptoms, don't take the time to get to the root cause. I thought back through the timeline, finally put two and two together and started searching the web...came across this question and know now I'm not alone. Going to file a complaint with the FDA (for what that's worth) and insist on brand name effexor, which I had taken for years with no problem. Will check in at a later date and let you know what the outcome is. Good luck to you.
I too experienced withdrawls when switched from Teva brand effexor xr 150 to aurobindo effexor xr 150 had to call numerous drug stores to find the teva brand I felt miserable.
