Is there any anti-depressants available that actually can make you loose weight and not gain?

I don't agree. Estilo (SSRI) and Mirtazapene especially adds fluid to my chest and stomach. I know this because I cut food intake by 30% and still gained weight. My diet consisted of vegetables fruits and salads with a handful of heavy carbs once in a while. My experience is that I have not found any antidepressant that doesn't make me put on weight eventually and I need to mitigate the reactions through diet and exercise which only do so much.
I was put on Zoloft 50mg an it really didn't like me I guess. I lost 15pds in 2 1/2 mnths. Had diarrhea, no appetite, anorexia like. Scary!! Got down to 119 an I'm 5'4. Never again for. ZOLOFT! !Here are several things I have been told are supposed to help your brain. You neurotransmitters. Bananas increase serotonin. Honey an chocolate to. Eating red meat like filet mignon has L-tryptophan in it. Vit. D3,5,000 units an Vit C. Im recovery Tramadol addict an it effects your serotonin an other neurotransmitters so been tryin to find natural way for blue mood. 5-HTP to. But all of these dont mix with antidepressant if your already on one. Otherwords dont mix. Exercise increases serotonin also. Goodluck! Im still trying to get my brain better since detoxed off Tramadol in May of '14'.
you r absolutely right but the antis always keep me awake
I agree with David. It's all about your healthy lifestyle choices. But I did experience more wight loss being on Welbutrin SR then I have being on Cymbalta. Now I don't take them for depression, I took them for chronic pain. So I don't know if there is a big difference in the matter. But being on Welbutrin I did happen to lose 30 lbs. very easily! Good luck to you!
There's no pill that can make you lose weight. Weight loss comes from calories in and calories out. If you are not eating properly and exercising on a regular basis then it is not the pills fault for having a negative effect on your weight.
Surely the drug may have an effect on your metabolism, but this is to a small degree if you cover all the other basis of your health; including but not limited to:
Adequate hydration throughout the day
Plenty of fruits and vegetables
Low fat consumption
Exercising at least 3 days a week
Adequate rest and sleep schedule
Loving others around you and enjoying life
Essentially, if you are missing any one of these factors, you will be more prone to experiencing depression in the first place, let alone weight gain from stressors and other little things.
Depression is a very hard thing to get over, but if you gradually take steps towards bettering yourself, the depression can be controlled over time. I was diagnosed with severe depression and now it isn't even an issue, so I am not just pulling this scientifically based info out of my ...lol
Anyhow, If you need help taking steps in the right direction, please post back and I'll be more than willing to help guide you!
