Hello, I'm taking an antibiotic for bronchitis. The active ingredient is Co-trimoxazole. I was wondering if there may be interactions with birth control pills?

Thanks

Hello, Naraka! How are you?

If you're taking a contraceptive that contains a form of estrogen, such as one of the combined oral ones, then yes, it can lower the efficacy of them and there have been instances were women got pregnant, due to taking antibiotics, so it would be best to use a backup method of contraception, until 7 days after you have finished the antibiotic.

Side effects to the Co-Trimoxazole may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Is there anything else I can help with?
