Hi, Dewsieq! Sorry about the problem that you and your husband are having.
Have you tried any of the OTC medications to see if they help at their available dosages?
Not every medication requires 500mgs to help with pain and you may find that something in a lower dose, such as Naproxen (Aleve) may help quite a bit.

But before taking anything, you do need to find a new doctor and make sure that it is safe for you to do so.
