From what I understand, if the toothache is being caused by a bacterial infection, then yes, an antibiotic like Ampicillin should work fine. In most cases one tablet is usually taken four times a day, every 6 hours. However, I would still recommend following your doctors instructions for proper dosing and administration of the drug, since bacteria can become resistant when it's not fully eradicated the first time around.
