Ampicilina 500mg For Abscess

I am taking the above med for a tooth abscess. I've read all the before answers and have not seen a straight answer. Is it effective or not? And what dosage is recommended?

Ampicillin is an antibiotic that has been proven effective at preventing or eradicating various bacterial infections. However, it depends on the type and severity of the infection, because some may be resistant to it.

The usual dosage for most infections is 250 to 500mgs every 6 hours for 7 to 10 days.

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

However, you shouldn't take it, unless your doctor or dentist has confirmed the presence of an infection, because taking it improperly creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Additionally, you'll still need to see a dentist to have the problem that caused the issue treated, otherwise the infection will keep returning.
