Amoxicillin Underdose (Top voted first)

My dentist proscribed me amoxicillin for my gums. He proscribed 250g three times a day. I have been taking it twice a day for several days. Any serious complications from this?

Under dosing an already low dose may not be the best idea, unless you're using other natural alternatives as an adjunct therapy. Reason being is that if you don't kill the infection, it can become more resistant and harder to kill the next time around. So you may want to continue taking it as prescribed if this is a concern to you.

How long has your doctor prescribed it to you for? Most antibiotics like this are generally prescribed for up to 7-10 days, depending on the type & severity of the infection. A 250mg dose indicates that your infection may not be very serious, otherwise they probably would've given you the 500mg dose three times daily. Regardless though, it's best to play it safe with a consistent dosage to get the best results.

Thanks Dave for your response. I took the proper dose next three days and that finishes my prescription. It was a 10 day prescription and I will be seeing the dentist.for followup in a couple of days. Thanks again

Good morning, I was recently diagnosed + for H. Pylori, and therefore put on a 14 day "triple therapy", which included 1G Amoxicillin twice a day, by mistake, and mainly from an oversight, I have only been taking 500 mg twice a day, already for 7 days. This morning, after taking my meds, I noticed the instructions on the Amox. bottle and freaked out, so right away I took the other 500mg capsule to make it 1 G. Am I in trouble ??, I did left a message to my Doctor about it. Should I continue from here on with 1 G twice a day for the remainder of the therapy course ??, Thanks.
