Amoxicillin Dosage 2000 Mg 1 Time Daily For Child.

9 Year old was at dr today for stomach flu. Called in rx to pharmacy. When I arrived home now I see it says 4pills 1 time daily so that would be 2000 mg at once for 10 days.......is that safe ?

Why was it prescribed for flu? Antibiotics are only effective at treating bacterial infections, as listed by the FDA, they will not treat the flu, which is caused by a virus. Unless he has developed some type of infection, then it isn't appropriate. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

As to the dosage, that's not too much in a day, though it may cause more side effects than lower dosages, but it is also usually split up and taken 2 to 3 times daily.

Have you double check with their doctor as to why this was prescribed?
