Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that's only effective for treating certain types of bacterial infections, so it will not treat a cold, because colds are caused by viruses.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
