It can take a week or more to fully be processed out of your body, when you have been taking it for that long.

As to weaning, it is usually best to follow a very slow tapering, since your body is used to it and you will more than likely experience some withdrawal effects. You can also experience some rebound effects to your blood pressure and heart rate, which can be quite dangerous.

Have you spoken to your doctor about stopping this medication?

I was put on 10mg Amlodopine when my BP was 225 during a period of heavy stress. It has taken me a year to get myself together & start sorting out my life. I have stopped drinking alcohol, started regular daily exercise, cut out all snacks (just eat 3 meals per day), and then lately started doing deep breathing exercises. I have lost 1.5 stone so far (since beginning of August) - a lot has been water retention I think! Over that time I have gradually cut down the amount of Amlodopine by breaking the tablet up - am now down to about 1/3 of the 10mg tab. My BP is consistently in the 120s to 130s range, so I am hoping to stop the tablets entirely in the next week or so. Worst thing on the tabs was lower-leg swelling. I have only just got my ankles back over the last few days. In general I feel so much better - but of course that is not just coming off the tabs but also the big lifestyle changes I have made. I've done all this without talking to doc - which I admit is NOT A GOOD IDEA. However, for me it was all about taking charge of myself and being in the driving seat. I am not sure I would have got this far if I had been passively taking medical advice.
At the moment I am not quite sure exactly how to handle the last bit of reduction - but probs I will go down to half of what I am taking now (ie to just a nibble then stop. Taking regular BP readings all the way of course. Then I shall have to go and explain myself to the doc I guess.....
