Allergic To Penicillin Can I Take Neurontin

I'm 73 years old and allergic to penicillin and I want to know if I can take gapabentin (neurontin ) for pain?

Yes, you should be able to take it, as long as your doctor approves, it is not related to Penicillin or any other antibiotic.

The FDA actually classifies Gabapentin as an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain.

I am also allergic to penicillin and started on 1 tablet low dose of gabapentin yesterday. 4 and half hours later I felt like I was tipsy. My tongue was tingling, heart beating fast and felt totally of this planet. Turns out I had an allergic reaction to gabapentin too. So if you get these symptoms please do NOT take any more and see your doctor
