Adhd-diagonosed But No Medication

I had a diagnostic test for ADHD done at a hospital and the results came back that I do have ADHD, and I am able to receive accommodations from my college because of this. The results although, did not suggest that I receive a prescription for medication, but instead that I attempt to use techniques they suggested. It has been about a year since then and I am doing better from these techniques and I have really put forth effort implementing them but I wanted to know why they wouldn't suggest medication even in a low dosage. I'm afraid to bring this up to my parents/ a doctor because I don't want them to think I'm just taking the easy way out or trying to get the drug like so many other students. Also I have been given adderall by others and when I've used it(only a handful of times) I feel like it has helped me but other times I have disliked the way I felt from it. Is this something I should mention if I do talk to a doctor? Just looking for some answers, or suggestions for how I should proceed with medication or how common it is for them to not prescribe to people diagnosed with ADHD. Thanks!

Not everyone who has ADHD needs medication. If you aren't seeing a dr for the treatment of your ADHD you may want to ask your parents to make you an appointment. But, it will be up to the dr to decide if you need meds.
