Environmental contamination. Waste water is purified and reused, but it's been found that prescriptions drugs tend not to be removed by current purification methods, so we end up with them still being in our tap water.

The preferred current disposal method is to mix them with some undesirable substance, such as used coffee grounds or dirty kitty litter, place the mess into a sealed container, such as a coffee can and then dispose of it with your regular garbage.
