I recently switched from adderall xr 30mg to adderall ir 20mg because of the price of the medication. Now im in space and unproductive, moody and sleepy. WHY???

Ive done a ton of readings on forums lately...this one has some of the closest to the side effects i am feeling.
i started adderrall back in 2002-2005 and was on the generic formula...but it was awesome. my job recently required more productivity and I knew i would need a little boost in that area, so last month i got my script filled again for the first time in years. 20mg generic...from walgreens...its pink now...i used to take orange ovals. anyway... it was weak and didnt do nearly what it used to for me. so this month, i got bumped to 30mg.the first 5 days on it...i took it as directed...30mg 3 times a day. It still wasnt what it used to be, but it worked ok...then maybe 4 days ago it took dosage as normal...and i started filling sick about mid-day. truthfully it blurred my vision so much and my eyes were twitching so bad at work, and i could hardly keep them open, i was honestly hoping it went away before the end of the day because i may have not been able to drive home. Thankfully no one really tried to talk to me...that was a bad night when i got home. sooo. the next day, i lowered my dose to 2 30mg a day...not as bad but same result. then i did only a pill and a half the next day, same result. Please note that the further i reduce my dose...the less it works. today i have only taken one. i took half on the way to work, and half an hour later. right now, i dont feel as sick, but i feel sick-ish for sure...but no help with focus what so ever... my legs feel so weak i dont want to walk, last night when i was driving, my right leg went numb...not tingle numb..numb like i couldnt feel it at all..

let me describe what sickness im feeling a little better. i have never taken Oxycoton what so ever...i dont do those types of things, but one time i was surfing with friends on a break that you can only get to by boat. i told one of them that i needed some energy and he said he had something that would give me energy...a Roxy. I had never taken one but i heard of them...so what the hell..i tried it. it make me sick for two days...never will i take it or anything like it. make you feel weak, with sweats...its like having a fever without the over-heating. and a slight edge of nausea the whole time. does anyone else know that feeling?

whats bothering me is...what can there fillers possibly be, that work for about a week, then start making you sick, even when reducing dose to almost nothing? its almost like a poison. im afraid to continue taking it as im not sure what is going on with it...inactive ingredient my a**. def something in there.

whoever said how did they do this...obviously not much testing was done or the would know this isnt helping peoples symptoms at all, only worsening them. I will go out of my way next month to find a differenty brand in town. crappy part is i just signed up for the walgreens perscript discount because i dont have insurance and it takes like $30 off the script every time i fill. but i dont want what they are serving anymore. what is the price diff between Brand Name Adderall and Generic?

back in 99 and 00 my best friend used to take 30mgXR..i only took his everynow and then recreationally but wow...those were by far the best ive ever had. seen the movie limitless? anyone else think its a spin off of adderall?

anyway, if anyone has found a remedy for what is happening with me or where to go and any advice what so ever...i will listen to all. i live in N.E. Florida btw.

Oh, and yes...the guy is right, poor kids whos mom might be making them take this because that is what the doc told her to do. i wish this upon no one, much less a helpless child who cannot even say no or make their own choice...i have a five year old daughter and after this experience, it makes me want to take everything she would consume before she does. this isnt even right. formula not even close...its like a new drug alltogether that is good for absolutely nothing...unless you might be into roxys and such. bleh!

I am glad to find this board and know that I am not crazy. I started taking Adderall XR (Brand) in April of 2008. It was absolutely an amazing improvement in my life. I felt as though I was finally able to act and interact with the world around me. Concentration, focus and positive outlook went WAY up. Well I lost my job and Health insurance in August 2010 and decided I could not afford the meds so I just quit cold turkey. It was hard for a few weeks but I slowly came around and remembered how to function without it but I was back to the same old unmotivated and depressed self.
Well I finally got new insurance and went back to my doctor who gladly put me back on. Being as my new insurance does not pay for prescriptions I asked him to switch me to the generic IR tabs because I remember seeing how much the XR's cost the insurance company. When I quit I was taking 50mg of XR. He started me on 40 IR (20 2x a day).
I got my script filled with generic barrs from CVS and took the first and waited...nothing. Took the second earlier than prescribed...still nothing. After an hour or so I noticed a slight increase in energy and motivation but NOWHERE near what I used to get from the XR's. It has now been 9 days and all these things do is help me wake up a little in the morning only to quickly fog up my mind and make me irritable and tired the rest of the day. This is definately NOT the Adderall I remember and loved. I found a pharmacy that carries Sandoz and am considering trying it. If they don't work I guess I will bite the bullet and pay for the XR's. Maybe they wont work either. Maybe the Adderall I remember is gone for good...what a let down :(

Please reply back if you can get ahold of any Sandoz or what not. I'm interested to see what if any difference you find...as im just stuck with Barr for the time being

Hi I just filled my script at cvs and got sandoz I also have never tried them before. I usually get barr from cvs and I never go to walgreens cause the only have the stinky pinky's around here. I have also noticed the new barr does not work like the old ones use to.

About Eon 20 mg circular tablets.
I have been on adderall oval shape 20 mg. Not sure if it was real adderall or ampheta, for 2.5 years. My whole life I thought I was a big failure because I did not do well in school. I just couldn't focus.
I was diagnosed with ADD at 42 started adderall. Rarely, did I take 20 mgs a day. I0 before class and 5 to focus to study worked great. I am Phi Beta Kappa. Graduating in May 2012.
Then, adderall shortage and price hike. Does this look like a conspiracy? Isn't this the crap drug dealers on the street pull once they have you hooked?
The price went to 5 bucks a pill. Way outta my price range. I switched to ritalin, It just was not workin for me. I was on it for about 3 weeks. Went back to the Dr. got a scrip for adderall figured I would just have to pony up.
Got it filled at Walgreens. This is when I got the round pills. I took no notice. Snapped one in half and it didn't really work.
So, I took the 3/4 of the other half. About 2 hours later while I was at work, I had a full blown panic attack. I freakin thought my heart was going to explode out of my chest. Right arm numb, and leg. My body was filled with gas.
Later, I burped and farted felt better. It was like my entire body was filled with gas.
Heart would start racing, it would come and go, come and go went on for over an hour before I called 911.
I was hauled off in ambulance, great that was in the budget, Dr's at hospital asked what happened, if I took drugs? I told them addy's.
They were all, "panic attack" here is a script for valume.
Home I went, I figured it could not be the adderall, cuz I have been on it for 2.5 years. Never had this happen.
Next day, had school.
I thought maybe it was something I ate, o.j, cereal, coffee and milk.
So the next day I did not do the coffee or the oj and I had a snack bar.
Took the 10 mg of Eon brand ampheta. Again it happened this time I was driving my car on the freaking highway. I thought I was going to die and take other people out with me.
I pulled off the freeway, got out, walked around, burped like crazy.
Today, not being the smartest tool in the shed, I took the 1/2 pill I was fine, later. I got some needed focus and school work done, but it was kind of in a cloud.
Later I took 3/4 of the other half and it felt like my brain was going to explode. I purchased gas pills so when I felt it coming on I chewed the gasx and did not have the panic attack. However, I have the hugest headache. I never get headaches!
I only have 4 classes left till I graduate. I was nominated for the top in class merit prize.
Due to my headache, I was forced to leave class. I could not complete my work.
Why do they have to go and mess with the formula?
I went to Walgreens, and told them I think I got a bad batch.
"Wow, really this is the first I ever heard of this."
I told him what I am in school for and what I specialize in, medical research.
It was not hard to find others suffering.
Someone up at the top of the thread mentioned the children.
Imagine if you were a child and had a whopper panic attack!
This is not right.
Some say Eon is good others say Barr is good. I don't know what the deal is. All I know is I was on the oval pills before and the circle pills by Eon make me useless and cost me a ER bill.

I'm assuming that you were taking the non-generic XRs. If that is the case I just wanted to tell you that there IS a generic XR and it works just as well for me as the name brand does. If you were on the generic XR then just ignore me completely lol.

hi, I just started 30mg of adderall last week and was told to cut them in half (15 mg) and take one half in am other in afternoon. I had taken a 15mg a few years ago and that is how i discovered that I have adhd but it felt stronger to me then, and it actually did what i thought it was supposed to do ( concentrate better, more productice, energy- not that i needed it). But now i take 30mg a day cut in half=15mg and i barely notice any kind of effect. I yawn, my mind is more fuzzy, headaches, and is unmotivating.

Ok...just got the Sandoz filled it is kicking in. WAY better than Teva/Barr. This is very much like what I remember from Name brand XR. I wont know for sure until tommorow since I had alot to eat today already and that usually numbs the effects. I guess different peoples brain/body chemistry react differently to small changes in the amphetamine source and or make up. If you were happy with name brand Adderall and have been dissapointed with Barr or another (corpharma anyone?) then I would certainly recommend Sandoz. As you can see I am rambling on right now and that is proof that this kicks ***. Will update tomorrow on pre-breakfast results....:)

BTW this stuff really does help me. I just really enjoy the effect that go beyond that. I know none of you have lectured me but I am sure someone will eventually come along who will. All I can say is...Are you happy right now?

I actually was taking Name brand XR for about 18 months and then it changed to Generic XR for about the last year I was on it. I noticed no change in effectiveness. I actually did not even realize they had switched it since the capsules were almost identical except for the imprint (ink).
I believe at that time Shire still manufactured both the generic and Adderall brand so the pills were probobly identical in composition.

I don't know which drug company makes the "pink" pills but I would love to know which one. I LOVED the pink pills. I now use the Barr orange pills. They have very little effect on me.

I've been taking half a Barr 30 mg twice a day for a few
Months. I'm a little motivated but still low energy. I have been cutting the pills larger for a few weeks, so I've probably been taking 20 mg in am then 15 mg afternoon. I asked my dr for 20 mg pills since I'm basically mucking up the dosage by guessing where to cut the 30's. I found a place that carried the
Eon lab brand. Are these way stronger? Should I cut them in half to try?

Are you lactose intolerant. One of the inactive ingredients in the EON adderall is lactose monohydrate

You're so high off the drug you don't even realize it. Your reaction to looking all over the web for answers that you admit you will find on Monday is ridiculous. You have no reason to freak out if you're taking the prescribed dose and can't tell the difference. The fact that you are doing so is the adderall working it's wonder.

Well if eating doesn't work I find that drinking water does because salt can dehydrate you and what better to help with dehydration than water

You say you were switched from Adderall XR 30mg to to Adderall 20mg (BTW: the "IR" designation is not needed, nor is it recognized by any professional or regulatory body--hence it is incorrect; just use Adderall to refer to the non-extended release formulation, and Adderall XR to refer to the extended release formulation), but you have not provided a dosing regimen. The maximum # of times Adderall XR should be administered in one day is usually two, preferably one. I prescribe on average 30mg of the XR to be taken at 7AM, or when first waking, followed by a second dose around noon to 2PM. That is a dose I have found most often efficacious in adult males. If I were to switch them to the non-extended release form, the I would lower the total mass of the salts to 15mg or 20mg, TID - q 8AM, noon, 4:00PM.

What you left out is critical to understanding the issue--did your physician have you on 30mg of the extended release form once or twice a day? When they switched you to Adderall 20mg, how many times a day was that prescribed to be administered?

While I have seen the phenomenon of selective response between brand vs. generic, it has never held water as tenable. To suggest that there is a difference is to spit in the face of chemistry, biology, and basic logic. Now I do know that there are differences when one make is not holding up their end of the bargain (rare), or when the delivery mechanism used in the brand is not the same as in the generic. For instance, if one maker comes up with a way to deliver medication over 12 hours and it relies on progressive dissolution of the API's (think of a tablet that under it's outer coating, has a layer of API('s), then a slow dissolving inert layer, followed by a layer of the API, etc. Now consider another maker has come up with a way to delivery medication over 12 hours, but it uses an osmotic pump or similar mechanism. In MOST people, there will be no noticeable difference, and in the eyes of the regulators, there is no difference. But for a group of individuals, for various reasons, they will notice the difference. Perhaps some have more acidic stomachs causing an increased amount of the dissolution based technology to be wiped out early on. I have seen patients who respond better to generics than to the brand (particularly with psychotropics), so to sum this up, generic doesn't mean a great deal of expense hasn't been invested (the lower cost is due to the fact that the drug (API) in question has been deemed acceptable by the FDA, and thus the generic manufacturer does not need to invest time & expense in 1) new compound discovery 2) drug trials (familiar with a drug being in say "Phase Two trials,"
3) advertising, and other factors. So, when I say that those patients who claim a difference are essentially spitting in the face of chemistry, biology, etc., I mean that there is no human who has yet been encountered who, when given "x"mg of drug "y" in the "IR" or form lacking extended/controlled release mechanisms, made by the original patent holder (brand), and then the experiment repeated with all the variables the same, except drug "y" was manufactured by generic rival, could any person thus encountered tell the difference. These are discrete compounds, your body cannot tell whether Endo made the oxycodone HCl/APAP or whether it was Roxane.
